Barbara Neustadt

Barbara Neustadt, sometimes called the printmaker’s printmaker, excelled in printmaking and painting. She was born on June 6, 1922 in Davenport, Iowa, but she spent the first few years of her life in New York City. Neustadt spent most of her childhood in Chicago, where she began taking private art lessons at the age of fourteen. She earned her undergraduate degree at Smith College, and she continued her education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, where she received a Master’s of Arts in History of Culture.
Throughout her career, Neustadt studied with artists such as Arnold Blanch and Ben Shahn. In the fall of 1952, Neustadt moved to New York City, where she worked with artists such as Bob Blackburn, Michael Ponce de Leon, and Margaret Lowengrund in lithography. Neustadt moved to Woodstock, New York in 1967, and she founded the Pleiades Press/Studio Art Graphic Art Centre. She eventually moved her studio to Bradenton, Florida.
