Clemens Weiss’s Great Dolphin + Fool juxtaposes two beings with warm colors, creating a sense of division and unsettlement within the composition. On one hand, the use of vibrant red and the incorporation of hearts throughout the work indicate connection, attachment, or even love. On the other, the use of juxtaposition and sinister representations, such as the fool’s facial expression and the skull in the upper right of the composition, implies a certain wickedness. The center of gravity allows for a sense of cohesion throughout the piece. ~ Marie Kessel, Recent Graduate of New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Bachelor of Arts in Art Law, Center for Art Law Spring 2021 Graduate Intern.
