About this Lot
Description
Donated By Liz Collins
Liz Collins (MFA, Rhode Island School of Design) is a Brooklyn-based contemporary artist most widely known for her textile installations. A former knitwear designer and member of the Council of Fashion Designers, Collins frequently collaborates with textile industry manufacturers (such as Sunbrella) and high-design brands (such as Ligne Roset) to create immersive experiences that highlight both the aesthetic and environmentally-conscious possibilities of materials, including selvedge and other mill waste. Collins’ vibrant, graphic, and often playful work is included in the collections of the Museum of Arts & Design, FIT Museum, RISD Museum, the Tang Museum, the Leslie-Lohmann Museum of Art, and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and it has been featured at NADA, Collective, and spring Break art fairs. Collins has taught at RISD, Pratt, MICA, and Parsons, among other institutions, and she is a member of the Female Design Council. Her community service has included a role on the Advisory Board of the Fire Island Artist Residency and a role as a Mentor in the Queer|Art|Mentorship program. The winning bidder will receive a private studio tour of both archival, current, and in-progress works, as well as the opportunity to engage with Collins on the sources of her inspiration and the aesthetic and social aspects of her practice. This tour may be conducted virtually or in person (subject to COVID protocol). Further details at: https://lizcollins.com/
