About this Lot
Description
Donated By Michele Pred
Michele Pred (BFA, California College of the Arts) is a Swedish-American multimedia artist and activist whose work focuses on the political meaning of commonplace objects, with a concentration on feminist themes such as equal pay, reproductive rights, and personal security. Pred’s projects also contain social components that drive the conversation into public spaces—both passively (including through the installation use of items confiscated in airports after 9/11, expired birth control pills, and modified vintage handbags), conceptually (including through an Artnet-featured project seeking pledges from women artists to raise their prices to mitigate the gender wage gap), and actively (including through community events such as the Parade Against Patriarchy, the We Vote parade, and the Radical Love Parade). Pred is also a member of the artist-run PAC For Freedoms. Pred’s work is included in the collections of the Berkeley Art Museum, FIT, and the 9/11 Memorial Museum. Her work has been exhibited at Jack Shainman Gallery, Gallery Eva Presenhuber, and Nancy Hoffman Gallery, which represents her. The winning bidder will receive a private virtual artist talk to discuss examples of the artist’s work and the use of art as a tool in the fight for social justice.
