Fisher’s etching, First Light, represents a scene in which the tree branches appear to be blowing in the wind. Fisher creates extraordinary depth through shades of gray and intentional composition. The depth allows for the heightened illusion of a dense, intimidating forest. Of his landscapes, Fisher says, “While still life situations are self consciously controlled, landscape presents an endless supply of unpredictable combinations of visual elements.” It can be difficult to determine a structural order from an environment that is constantly changing. Thus, Fisher’s landscapes are manipulated to an extent in order to intensify the concepts of perception and illusion. In spite of these concepts, somehow Fisher’s landscapes are, as he expresses, still just “dirt on paper.” ~ Marie Kessel, Recent Graduate of New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Bachelor of Arts in Art Law, Center for Art Law Spring 2021 Graduate Intern.
