About this Lot
Description
This Salmagundi work of art is titled, "Ernst N. Townsend Sketching" (Salmagundi Club Collection). A painter's perspective of another artist en plein-air among nature. Oil on canvas. Image Size: 16" x 14" Framed Size: 21" x 19.5" The 1920s and 1930s served as formative years for Tore Arvid Asplund (1903-1978) as an artist. They were surrounded by practitioners of the pictorial arts and the time of which they drew most of their inspiration was also a time of recovery after the horrors of the First World War. Surrealism was also a growing artistic movement during this time with a focus on the human unconscious.
