This group of works on paper by Benoît Gilsoul featured in our upcoming C2 sale Beyond the Glass showcase the artist’s considerations of light and space and offer insights into his process in regards to the medium for which he is most well known – Stained Glass. Windows by Gilsoul are viewable in prominent New York landmarks including, Man’s Search for Peace, the glass and cement façade of the The Tillman Chapel at the UN Church Center, and Christ Over the City at St. John’s Capuchin Monastery across from Madison Square Garden. Two additional noteworthy projects include the adaptation of Ben Shahn’s painting of the 150th Psalm into leaded glass for Temple Beth Zion in Buffalo and his collaboration with Romare Bearden on the artist’s only work realized in stained glass, the triptych City of Light commissioned by the MTA for the Westchester Square IRT Station in New York.
