18th C. Brass Carriage Clock with movement by Simpson, Plymouth,1791, engraved "Simpson Yarmouth", along with an Elliot of London Lacquered Chinoiserie Mantle Clock and a Welby brass desk clock (EWOO604/3)(MM) Dimensions: 9 1/2 x 8 1/4 x 2 3/4, Simpson 5" tall and Welby 3" tall Property from a Private Westport, CT Collection. Born in London and educated privately, Albert Woodley’s career began in advertising at the American Express Company in London, and continued on in Paris with the United States Lines. His career then led him to New York, where he worked at an advertising agency handling transportation-oriented accounts for American Express, Japan Mail, and British Railways. In 1943 he decided to branch out on his own and established the Albert Woodley Company Inc. to handle a variety of advertising, promotional, and public relations materials. One of his most successful forays was in the fur industry, where he arranged shows in Frankfurt, Sydney, Melbourne, Madrid, Portugal, London, Paris, Milan, and other locations. The works he acquired are a reflection of his life experiences, international travel, and connoisseurship.
