Notes
This work is based on the lithograph of the same title by Géricault, published in 1821. The composition of this work is a mirror image of Géricault's lithograph, and is probably based on a German lithograph which also reverses the composition. A work with similar composition and dimensions may be found in Germain Bazin, Géricault, Paris, 1997, tome VII, #2411, p. 172.
