Lot 183
Chinese Cloisonné Vases and White Stone Figurines
Description
A collection of Chinese decorative objects comprising two pairs of cloisonné enamel vases and two carved white hardstone elephant figurines, all supported on conforming wooden stands. The first pair of vases features a baluster form with a black ground densely worked in fine wire with chrysanthemum and foliate motifs, while the second pair of pear-shaped vases displays five-clawed dragons amidst stylized clouds on a yellow-gold geometric diaper ground. The two figurines depict elephants in striding poses with raised trunks, characteristic of 20th-century decorative export wares
Details
Cloisonné enamel, copper alloy, white hardstone
height (taller vases): 8 1/4 inches
Provenance
Property from an Upper West Side Collection
Condition
The collection remains in overall stable condition, though the cloisonné vases exhibit localized surface wear, minor pitting, and light scratches to the enamel decoration, and both hardstone elephants with chips and incomplete tusks, while no technical analysis of the hardstone composition or the specific metal alloys has been conducted at the time of cataloging.
