This beautiful blue & white porcelain vessel with intact handle and lid is a very fine example of a specific style of chamber pot. These vessels of squat curved body and square spout were used to collect urine samples for early medical diagnosis and collection of mineral salt/hormones believed by Chinese medical practitioners to aid in the treatment of various ailments. The blue underglaze is painted in with various motifs incorporating flowers, bats, and stylized cloud forms. The fitted lid has a flower bud handle.
