Conrad Marca-Relli was an artist known for his pioneering work in collage and abstract expressionism. He initially focused on figurative painting but later transitioned to abstract expressionism, becoming associated with the New York School and the art movement known as the "Second Generation" abstract expressionists.
One of Marca-Relli's notable contributions to the art world was his innovative approach to collage. He began incorporating fragments of canvas and fabric into his paintings, layering them with paint to create dynamic and textured compositions. These collages often featured bold, abstract forms and a sense of movement.
Marca-Relli's works explored the interplay of light and shadow, geometric shapes, and the tension between abstraction and representation. His compositions often conveyed a sense of energy and intensity, reflecting the spirit of abstract expressionism.
Throughout his career, Marca-Relli's artwork was exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions. He received numerous awards and honors, including a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1954 and a National Endowment for the Arts grant in 1970.
His paintings can be found in major art institutions and collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Tate Modern in London, and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Joyce Lowinson M.D. was a pioneer in the treatment of opioid addiction and the founding director of Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Division of Substance Abuse. Also known as Joyce Kootz, her husband, the late Samuel M. Kootz, was a New York City art dealer and author whose gallery was one of the first to champion Abstract Expressionist Art. During Samuel M. Kootz's career, he bought paintings directly from Picasso and exhibited work by Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, James Brooks, Giorgio Cavallon, Arshile Gorky, David Hare, Hans Hofmann, Ibram Lassaw, Herbert Ferber, Raymond Parker, William Ronald, Tony Rosenthal, Conrad Marca-Relli, Georges Mathieu, Emil Schumacher, Pierre Soulages, Kumi Sugaï, Zao Wou Ki, and others.
