Lot 187
Daffodil Wreath Quilt with Scalloped Edge
Description
An American appliqué quilt of rectangular form featuring a twelve-block daffodil wreath design in tan and teal cotton on a white ground, the central composition enclosed by a repeating swag and bow border and finished with a scalloped edge, hand-quilted throughout and bearing an aesthetic consistent with 19th-century examples from Dorchester County, Maryland.
Details
cotton
100 x 80 inches
Provenance
From the Collection of Anne H. Hoy - Author, Professor, and Curator
Condition
The quilt displays concentrated areas of brownish surface staining and generalized age-related discoloration throughout that would benefit from a cleaning, alongside visible surface wear and fine, dense hand-quilting stitches, though no technical analysis of the textile fibers or dye stability has been conducted to confirm its precise origin or period of manufacture.
