E.M. FORSTER (1879-1970). A Passage to India. London: Edward Arnold, 1924. Octavo (7 3/8 x 4 7/8 inches; 187 x 124mm). Pp. [1-]5-325; [i-iii advertisements at end]. Original dark red ribbed cloth-covered boards, lettered in black to front panel and spine (little bumping to head of spine and corners, very light fading to spine).

First edition, first issue: an excellent copy. “Forster achieved his greatest success with A Passage to India (1924). The novel is about the relationship between East and West, seen through the lens of India in the later days of the British Raj. In it, Forster connected personal relationships with the politics of colonialism through the story of the English Adela Quested and the Indian Dr Aziz and the question of what did or did not happen between them in the Marabar Caves.” (https://www.newworldencyclopedia.org/entry/E._M._Forster).
