SABBATHARIANISM.  19th Century American broadside, with section on public transportation.  Stains at upper corners. No date, c. 1830’s? Author’s name supplied by Gilder Lehrman Collection #: GLC04717.42

Smith declares, "the spirit of the age and the tide of our prosperity threaten to wrest from us this most precious institution of the Creator of the world." He goes on to comment on the impact of steamboats, railroad cars, and stagecoaches  on traditional practices.
