Art has not been examined out of the frame unless otherwise stated. Frames, lampshades, or items described as “supplementary” are not considered integral to the value of the lot and are excluded from condition assessments. Dr. Joyce Lowinson M.D. was a pioneer in the treatment of opioid addiction and the founding director of Albert Einstein College of Medicine's Division of Substance Abuse. Also known as Joyce Kootz, her husband, the late Samuel M. Kootz, was a New York City art dealer and author whose gallery was one of the first to champion Abstract Expressionist Art. During Samuel M. Kootz's career, he bought paintings directly from Picasso and exhibited work by Georges Braque, Fernand Léger, James Brooks, Giorgio Cavallon, Arshile Gorky, David Hare, Hans Hofmann, Ibram Lassaw, Herbert Ferber, Raymond Parker, William Ronald, Tony Rosenthal, Conrad Marca-Relli, Georges Mathieu, Emil Schumacher, Pierre Soulages, Kumi Sugaï, Zao Wou Ki, and others.
