[VICTORIAN Royalty, Nobility and Celebrities] an album of approx. 225 mounted photographs, mostly cdv-sized portraits, but with some topographical views and reproductions of artwork, originally purchased from Croydon’s Repository of Arts in Torquay, Devon, England.]. [U.K.: undated but internal evidence suggests that the album was assembled between about 1865 and 1870]. Large quarto (11 5/8 x 9 ¼ inches; 295 x 235mm). Approx. 225 photographs (and two pieces of original artwork), on 66 album pages.
Condition of contents: some waviness to leaves, a few photos with early hand-coloring, a few with surface damage, occasional spotting, some fading, but generally quite good contrast [see images].
Original brown morocco, blocked in gilt and blind, gilt edges (rubbed, scuffed, repair to front inner hinge).
There are approximately 110 portraits, , most CdeV size, but including some larger (up to 5 ½ x 7 inches) and some smaller (ovals down to 1 x ¾ inches), subjects include:
