Igor Mitoraj

Polish 1944-2014

Igor Mitoraj was a significant figure in contemporary sculpture, celebrated for his unique style and profound artistic vision. Mitoraj's work often drew inspiration from ancient Greek and Roman art, particularly classical sculptures.  His sculptures frequently referenced myths, legends, and historical narratives, exploring themes such as beauty, mortality, and the human condition, connecting the contemporary audience with ancient stories and symbols.

Aesthetically Mitoraj's sculptures are distinct, characterized by fragmented and weathered surfaces, as if they were excavated relics from an ancient civilization.
