An unglazed Japanese Sue-ware (Sueki) stoneware jar of globular form featuring a short neck and a wide, everted rim with an undulating profile, the gray clay body exhibiting a coarse, textured surface with localized natural wood ash glaze and iron spotting from wood-fired kiln conditions, alongside areas of calcified mineral encrustation consistent with long-term interment
Details

4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches
Provenance
The Eugene and Dorothy Prakapas Estate, proceeds to benefit a scholarship fund at Yale University

The jar exhibits a heavily weathered exterior with significant pitting, surface encrustation, and burial-induced discoloration throughout, while the flared rim displays visible chips, material loss, and stable stress fractures, though no technical analysis of the clay composition or firing environment has been conducted to determine its precise age.
