This oil on tarp work is a rare look into Jean-Michel Basquiat’s early days as a graffiti artist in the late 1970s. Done during his SAMO© project, a collaboration with Al Diaz involving branded messages all over Lower Manhattan, the tarp bears the famed tag in Basquiat’s signature jazz-like improvised style.

overall very good condition, medium is well attached to the support, tarp is aged and would benefit from cleaning by a conservator
