Magaril’s biblical themed Adam and Eve guides the viewer in visualizing the final stages of genesis—the world before anything else and the primordial man and woman. The piece includes smooth lines and the juxtaposition of bright white figures against a more neutral background, with a pop of black, possibly representing Eve’s temptation in the form of the fated apple. The figure on the left appears to be cut off, possibly representing Eve, who was created from Adam’s rib. Yet, somehow, even though the work represents such an intense plot, it is still soothing in its use of complementary tones and shapes. ~ Marie Kessel, Recent Graduate of New York University Gallatin School of Individualized Study, Bachelor of Arts in Art Law, Center for Art Law Spring 2021 Graduate Intern.
