Buxton, London, [etc.]: J.C. Bates [and others], 1879. Duodecimo (6 5/8 x 4 1/8in; 168 x 105mm), pp. viii, 146 + 22 pp (opinions of the press). Folding engraved frontispiece, extra-illustrated with a signed CdeV of the Duke of Rutland and  6 related autograph letters signed (5 from the Duke, the 6th written on the Duke’s behalf).  Original blue cloth, blocked in gilt, black and blind, onlaid pictorial oval to the upper cover, cream glazed endpapers (the onlay very slightly chipped.

A fine association copy – including the dedicatee’s letters to the author. Composed of articles reprinted from various contemporary periodicals and newspapers: London Society, Temple Bar, Cassell's Magazine, Our Native Land, The Magazine of Art and The Sheffield Daily Telegraph telling of the author's rambles in the Peak District. It offers vivid descriptions of Derbyshire scenery. Contents include: The Story of Dorothy Vernon, A Visit to Via Gellia, Up the Derbyshire Wye, Two Views of Matlock, Through the Peak on the Engine of the Express, By the Banks of the Dove, A Shoemaker's Holiday, Our Week at Buxton.
