Description

An antique Persian Sultanabad carpet of rectangular form featuring a dense floral and vining pattern on an indigo field, accented with a central vase motif and symmetrical bird figures amongst scrolling branches, all enclosed within a wide rust-red border decorated with repeating floral medallions and palmettes, having an aesthetic and construction consistent with 19th-century production, measures 5 ft 6 in x 3 ft 5 in.

Condition

The carpet exhibits significant and generalized pile wear with areas of the foundation visible throughout, localized thinning, and minor fading to the dyes consistent with long-term use, alongside fraying to the overcast selvedges and losses to the end fringes, would benefit from a cleaning
