Description

Stanley BALDWIN, Earl Baldwin (1867-1947, Prime Minister of Great Britain). This Torch of Freedom speeches and addresses. London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1935. Octavo (8 ¾ x 5 ¾ in; 222 x 146 mm). Pp. [i-]v-ix[-x;1-]339[-340]. Extra-illustrated with a corner-mounted 1p. typed-letter signed, on 10 Downing St. headed note-paper dated 7th October 1935,  from Sir Geoffrey Storrs Fry, private secretary to Stanley Baldwin, and a corner-mounted half-sheet of notepaper, blind-stamped 10 Downing Street and signed by Stanley Baldwin whilst he was Prime Minister. Original blue cloth, dust-jacket (dust-jacket with slight discoloration and fraying to edges). 

First edition with related letter and signature. Baldwin led three administrations (1923-1924; 1924-1929 and 1935-37). He is probably now best-known for his handling of the Abdication Crisis in 1936.
