The Estate of Patricia Scipio-Brim

Patricia Scipio-Brim (1947–2023) was born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago before immigrating to New York in the 1970s. After earning her law degree from New York University School of Law, she embarked on a distinguished legal career in corporate law, practicing at prominent firms including Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, and Carter Ledyard & Milburn. She later transitioned from private practice to public service, joining the New York City Department of Finance, where she served as a Supervising Administrative Law Judge.

A passionate advocate for the arts, Patricia was first introduced to New York's art scene in the 1980s through a neighbor, the daughter of a prominent artist.. She went on to become a dedicated collector and supporter of African American artists and artists of the African diaspora. Over the years, she cultivated close relationships with influential galleries including Dorsey's Art Gallery, Kenkeleba Gallery, Stella Jones Gallery, Peg Alston Fine Arts, and Spiral Gallery. She was also a devoted patron of the Studio Museum in Harlem and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, institutions whose missions reflected her deep commitment to preserving and celebrating Black art, culture, and history.
