Provenance: Marian Miller (nee Cheyne, 1812-1889) married 11 October 1838 to Taverner John Miller (1804-1867) (of London, see family record in vol.I).

A lavish 3-volume extravaganza, possibly a wedding gift to the Millers, who went on to become a highly successful upper middle-class London family. The family record at the front of the first volume starts with Marian Cheyne and Taverner Miller’s marriage, details of their nine children follow: place, exact time and date of birth, christening: who officiated, who the godparents were, health: vaccination, result of the vaccination, a note of the severity of the measles infection, etc.

All nine children were vaccinated. The procedure was carried out in each case by their uncle, Robert Romley Cheyne (1811-1886). He was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (from 1834) and became a Fellow in 1852. He was also licensed by the Society of Apothecaries (from 1834). An active champion of the practice of vaccination, Cheyne had articles and correspondence published on the subject.
