About this Lot
Description

H.M. VEDDER (calligrapher).

Framed calligraphic demonstration piece, titled “Spencerian Penmanship / embracing / Mercantile and ornamental hands. [No place: no date, but on paper watermarked ‘J. Whatman / 1860’]. Original pen and ink on paper (21 ½ x 18 ¼ inches; 546 x 463mm), elaborate letter-forms, flourishes, and stylized birds. (Light toning, repaired tears affecting the image area [see images]). Framed and glazed (frame damaged).

A tour-de-force of lettering: unfortunately now damaged and quite fragile.
