Rebecca Perehudoff’s strong use of color, light, and texture in Blue and Rose Stream depicts nature in a way that reminds her of distinct human experience. Mimicking the style of post-impressionists through the use of short strokes of bold color, Perehudoff captures the unique colors of nature—from muted mauve to ultramarine blue to olive green. Perehudoff’s use of short strokes shows the realistic texture of the foliage, while her use of longer strokes shows the smoothness of the sky. Her strokes thus create a sense of contrast and depth, especially where the directional flow of the water sends the viewer’s eye up the canvas.
