We will work with you to synchronize our schedules and communicate with you to tailor a competitive commission structure.
At Capsule & Litchfield auction items are handled and presented in a way that shows them in their best light and is respectful both to their place in history– and to the consignor. We offer both curated themed sales, as well as monthly estate property sales.
We strive to be kind, understanding, enthusiastic and helpful, in addition to being professional. Clients like working with us, which is paramount to our success and growth.
We have been working with International Auction houses for over 30 years. We understand the expectations of professionalism that are required, including timeliness, appearance, reliability, and service. You will find that Capsule & Litchfield meet your (and your client’s) expectations.
We are often enthusiastic about property that does not meet your minimum value criteria or that fall into categories outside your usual auction offerings.
We can offer competitive consignment terms — in some scenarios matching commissions that are built for much more valuable items and for property that might not be a good fit for your auction house. When appropriate we can also negotiate fair terms that allow us to give you a meaningful Introductory Commission for the referral.
Our Collaborations with other auction houses are typically one of three distinct scenarios listed below. The differences revolve around the scale of the property, the value, and the level of involvement your auction house wants to maintain.
A large, multi-million dollar collection, in which your auction house will be selling a variety of important pieces for the consignor, and you need a solution to ease the dispersal of items from the collection that are not practical for you to sell.
A large collection where there are only a few pieces your auction house is interested in selling, but there is a large volume of property that the client needs sold.
A collection where there are no items that your auction house is interested in selling, but to be helpful to the client, you want to steer them in the best direction
When working with other auction houses, the best partnerships involve situations where we can be helpful with property that is either below the referring auction house’s minimum value, outside of their sale categories, or involves too many lower-valued items, with only a few high-value pieces.
Larger consignments have reduced per item minimum value requirements. Where the overall value warrants, we can handle inventories which include some individual lot values as low as even $100.
While we ask that minimum overall value not be less than $2,000 per consignment, Collections with a minimum total value of $20,000 are ideal. The more items of decent value that remain, the more helpful we can be, and the better terms we can offer the client.
For the smallest consignments (10 items or less) we would prefer individual value ranges with a median estimate values of at least $500 per lot.,
Finally, in cases where purchase is desired, we offer generous buy-out options for better material, along with a fair Introductory Commission to the referring auction house
We cover a wide geographic area, with expertise in NYC moves as well as regular experience handling estates everywhere from Pennsylvania to Massachusetts – even as far as Florida, Maine and California
Thanks to our teams of in-house and trusted art handlers, we can facilitate professional, careful packing and moving of consigned items or a total clearout of an entire space when required.
