About this Lot
Description

OGDEN’S TOBACCO (manufacturers). An album, containing ‘Ogden’s Guinea Gold Cigarettes’ photographic cards. [UK: c. 1901]. Small oblong 4to. 12 card leaves, each page with spaces for six cards, this album with a total of 133 cards. (About ten cards with condition problems, the others in acceaptable condition, some of the mounts damaged). Original green imitation-aligator cloth, upper cover blocked in gilt with “Ogden’s Photo Album” (rubbed).

An interesting selection: military, nobility, sporting and theatrical. The cards are photographic, with subjects ranging from Li Hung Chang, to Bugler Dunne; Queen Victoria to ‘Mdlle. Rita’; ‘Vernon’ to Cecil Rhodes. Overall there are about 30 cards of military personnel, about 78 of actresses and actors (mostly actresses);  3 sportsmen; 6 of locations in S. Africa or China; the remaining cards are of well-known personalities in other fields.
