Updike. Heller. Cheever. Love'em or hate'em, these were the stars of the Post War American literary scene, proponents of the brash, satirical, humorous, pathetic, thoroughly American & thoroughly male perspective often as uncomfortable to read as it is well written. We can't guarantee history will be kind to them, but they did stir the waters a bit & probably will always represent the closing decades of the American Century, at least in some sense.
