Description

[BUSINESS ARCHIVE]. Erie Rail Road System Mortgages, Etc.,  Atty. WHITE & Kimble. Vol. 1 (only). Bound volume of pamphlets, documents and carbon copy reports relating to the establishment and development of the airy railroad company, all from the law offices of White and Kemble. For the most part these are in-house items relating to securities and other financing issues— very few copies would have been produced of most of these.  The amount and scope of data presented is impressive: histories of individual branches and lines, mortgage papers, lease documents, certificates of incorporation and report form, etc.

The 2 p. Index lists 48 individual items; each page is numbered at the upper corner with a red rubber stamped, 1-969.  

White & Kimble, recognized experts on railroad securities and regulations, are best remembered for the publication, 'White and Kemble's Atlas and Digest of Railroad Mortgages.' The bound volume offered here serves as an example of how thoroughly the company’s  acclaimed library assembled miscellaneous documents— see image of a google book entry on the library from a 1921 edition of Special Libraries Directory.

Condition: generally very good to about fine, normal edgewear to outsized items; some does soiling. Various sizes and paper types; most history‘s are on typing paper in a purple-blue ink, very likely carbon copies. The earliest item is dated 1878; they run through to the beginning of the last century. A true archive.
